Bus 27

I take bus 27 to Changi Airport to work everyday.

I wait for bus 27 at the bus stop in front of the old temporary Sengkang bus interchange. During the morning peak hours, bus 27 is so crowded that I have to wait for 2 to 3 buses to pass by before I am able to board one.

Bus 27 starts from Hougang intercharge and picks up passengers along the way. It is no wonder that it'll be almost full by the time it reaches Sengkang. Although there is a bus 27A that runs parallel with bus 27, which starts from Blk 203B and terminates in front of Century Square, it is still crowded before it reaches the bus stop before SLE.

Many Sengkang residents who work and study have to squeeze in these buses every morning. This service is packed at night as well. Seats are taken up even before the bus leaves the airport.

I hope something can be done to improve the situation. Here're my suggestions:

1. Have a double deck bus service that travels between Sengkang interchange and Tampines interchange via SLE. Sengkang town has grown over the years and there should be enough passengers to support this service.

2. Deploy double deck buses for 27A. I understand double deck buses cannot be used for the bus 27 route may not be able to enter the bus terminal at the basement of Changi Airport. However, bus 27A terminates at Tampines. More passengers can be ferried at one time if double deck buses are deployed.

In addition, I do not understand why passengers do not enjoy the transfer rebate when switching from bus 27A to bus 27 since the route. I for example, take bus 27A from Sengkang to Tampines and switch to bus 27 because I am unable to board the crowded bus 27 at Sengkang. It will help needy folks save money if there are rebates.

I also do hope our MPs can look into the situation and help the residents even though I foresee they will most probably do so (if they are interested) just before the next election.

In the meantime, for a more comfortable bus ride to Changi Airport. I do the following:

1. Take bus 27 much earlier (0645 bus).
2. Take bus 86 to Seletar Camp entrance and change to bus 858 to Changi Airport

Do "Share" this post if you like it and let's hope for an improvement in the situation.

Look at it another way - our airport facilities are not up to standard. The underground bus terminal has its roots back from 1981, while terminal 2 and terminal 3's terminals were built after terminal 1's structure. This underground bus terminal, however, is only able to support single decker buses as (if i am not wrong) double deckers were not existent in Singapore at that point of time.
While the airport can upgrade to support newer and bigger aircraft so as to enhance passenger flow, why can't the public bus facilities at the airport be upgraded to support double decker buses?
Do note that service 27 is not the only service that suffers from such packed situations due to height restrictions. Other airport services - 24, 34, 36, 53 all face similar situations.
